MEC pleased with 2021 KZN National Youth Camp
The KZN Department of Sport and Recreation in partnership with the National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and Love Life hosted a successful 2021 National Youth Camp at Hluhluwe/Imfolozi Game reserve on 4 -10 December 2021
The Youth Camp is targeted towards youth from different backgrounds and in the main included Grade 9 to 11 learners from farm, township, rural and urban schools. About 100 delegates from across the province were part of camp.
The primary aims of the Youth Camp are to contribute towards an active young population which is:
1) Cognisant of its environment,
2) Mindful of its challenges and is determined to overcome them,
3) Inspired by their sense of patriotism, discipline and national identity and
4) Proud of its youth and unique talents
Attendees engaged in different empowerment activities that sought to build character, team work and national pride.
MEC for Sport and Recreation Hlengiwe Mavimbela attended the opening ceremony of the Camp and urged the participating youth to use the opportunity to gain knowledge that will empower them for the future.
She urged all camp participants to have a great time and experience, but not to forget to learn and make friends from different races and cultures during the seven days of the camp.
One of the participants Amahle Shangu (16) Birdswood secondary school from Richards Bay said she was excited to be part of the camp. “In just a day I had spent in the camp I have learnt a lot of things, I had learnt to communicate efficiently with other people and improve my listening skills, so with more days I will be here I expect to learn more things,” she commented.
