MEC Handover Sport Equipment To Women’s Football Teams
MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Hlengiwe Mavimbela handed over football equipment to 16 KZN women’s teams participating in the SAFA SASOL Provincial Women’s League. The equipment, which was handed over at Chatsworth Stadium today, includes footballs, Mesh fabric football bibs, cones and markers, Speed and agility training set, Hurdles, Coaches’ tactical boards and Whistles.
MEC Mavimbela says; “Women’s football will be central to our plans to assist in the establishment and development of strong sports clubs in different wards in the Province as part of the Ward-Based Intervention Programme. We are currently finalizing our plans with SAFA to ensure that football development programmes are supported and coordinated at grassroots level, including school sport. The programmes will include the involvement of sports legends who will assist with coaching, talent identification and development and mentoring our youngsters by sharing their experiences. We will announce our programmes and plans in more detail during the Department’s budget speech later this month."
“I hope that this assistance will be able to make a difference to our teams and give them determination to continue flying the KZN flag high when they compete among themselves and other Provinces. We will continue to support the development of female sports, especially to avail opportunities for our athletes in rural and disadvantaged areas,” said MEC Mavimbela.
SAFA KZN Chairperson Kwenza Ngwenya announced that KZN will host the National Playoffs for the SASOL Women’s League in December this year.
