MEC Mavimbela Brings Festive Cheer To Destitute Family Enhlwathi

It was tears of joy at the Nkosi residence when MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Hlengiwe Mavimbela handed over a fully furnished four-bedroom house to the family at eNhlwathi, in Hlabisa in Northern KwaZulu-Natal.
After seeing the Nkosi homestead being washed away after heavy rains, MEC Mavimbela sought assistance from donors who helped build the house. The family, who are neighbours at MEC Mavimbela’s home, have been living in dilapidated houses for many years and the situation got worse during heavy rains.
MEC Mavimbela said: “It gives me joy to be able to hand over this house to the Nkosi family, as neighbours I have seen how much they were struggling. It broke my heart to witness their house being washed away, hence I decided to intervene. The house is fully furnished, and I hope having proper shelter will restore the dignity for the family.”
MEC Mavimbela said, since its December and a period of giving, there was no appropriate gift than to provide a home. She also appealed to business to lend a hand and assist as there are many struggling families in the Province.
One of the family members Zodwa Nkosi said: “The family has no words to express how we feel after receiving the house. The situation before was difficult and having this house will improve our lives for the better; and now we will be able to spend Christmas in a decent home. We would like to thank MEC Mavimbela for assisting us as the family.”
MEC Mavimbela called on the people of KwaZulu-Natal to adhere to Covid-19 protocols during the festive season in order to arrest the spread of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, as part of her community outreach programme and anti-gender-based violence awareness campaign, MEC Mavimbela handed over food vouchers to poor families in Bhambanana, Jozini area (12 December) and Nhlwathi, Hlabisa (22 December).
