Inkosi Albert Luthuli’s legacy of using peaceful means to executive the struggle for freedom and leadership of the community has been kept alive through football, one of his biggest passions in his home town of KwaDukuza this past weekend (22 November 2020).

The Chief Albert Luthuli Football Tournament commemorated 60 years of his receipt of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Norway. It was a much welcome endeavour following the sport drought owing to the Covid-19 lockdown,
The tournament was organised by the Albert Luthuli Museum with the assistance of the Department of Sport and Recreation, Ilembe District Municipality and the KwaDukuza Municipality.
The local football association (LFA) and the Department of Health ensured that the event was taking place under strict Covert-19 regulations, including the pre-screening of all participants. There were no fans except for people who played certain roles in the teams and the tournament.
Nkobonga Masters emerged victorious of the 12 district teams that participated in a day-long event. In second place was More Fire, followed by Indlu Yamandla in third place.
The participating teams have been part of the football social league established by the Department in the district.
