MEC launches District Development Model in uMzinyathi

The DDM approach will assist in addressing service delivery challenges and pave way in ensuring synergy for all spheres of government from local municipalities to National Government. Through this model, which was launched by President Cyril Ramaphosa last year, government will align all programmes to ensure that there is “One Plan One budget” approach in bringing service delivery to communities.
MEC Mavimbela said “When the President was addressing us last year, he made it clear that they are replicating a programme that KwaZulu-Natal started a long time ago, Operation Sukuma Sakhe. The DDM means that all stakeholders will be sitting together from planning phase to delivery, including District and local Mayors, Amakhosi, State Owned Enterprises, Provincial and National government departments.”
“We are ‘One Province, having one plan to build one future’. As KZN we have an advantage because we already had a programme similar to DDM and we need to lead by example as other Provinces will be learning from us,” said MEC Mavimbela.
UMzinyathi District Mayor, Petros Ngubane, said the DDM model is an important intervention by government to coordinate the delivery of services to communities.
“With this programme government is bringing together all like-minded people to plan and deliver services for our people. If we are having fragmented service delivery people will not feel the impact. But if all government departments work together it is easy to achieve impactful results,” he said.
