Payment Process Set To Start For COVID-19 Relief Fund

This follows a lengthy adjudication, verification and auditing process to ensure that the application process was fair and transparent.
In May 2020, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Hlengiwe Mavimbela, announced the official opening of the application process for the R7 million Provincial Relief Fund for the sport and recreation sector.
A total of 862 applications were received from individuals, groups and federations; of which 470 were successful. The total number of successful individual beneficiaries is 1,083 (noting that certain federations applied on behalf of their official). The quantum of payments as determined by the adjudication panel will range between R4000 and R20 000.
“We are pleased to announce that the auditing process is nearing finalization and the Department is set to start with payments to successful beneficiaries in the coming week for those with all documents in good order. The Department is communicating with those who are required to submit outstanding documents so that the process could be finalized,” said MEC Mavimbela.
“The adjudication process has taken a longer period than originally anticipated because we wanted to ensure that deserving people will receive the relief funding. Last month we had to extend the applications deadline so that more people could have an opportunity to apply. The adjudication also had to be checked by an independent team of auditors to ensure full compliance and transparency in the process. We would like to thank the adjudication panel for giving their time to scrutinize each one of the 862 applications and for helping those who needed assistance in order to comply with the set criteria,” said MEC Mavimbela.
An appeal process will be afforded to people whose applications were declined for various reasons.
