President Cyril Ramaphosa will join the early morning 5km walk to promote active and healthy lifestyles in Pietermaritzburg on Thursday, 10 January 2019.

The walk will start at Freedom Square in the Pietermaritzburg CBD at 06h00 and end at the new Msunduzi Athletics Track. The walk will be followed by the official handover of the world-class athletics track to the local municipality and sports fraternity by President Ramaphosa.

He will be joined by Sport and Recreation Minister Thokozile Xasa and her KZN provincial counterpart, MEC Bongi Sithole-Moloi and other leaders.

MEC Sithole-Moloi said the walk is organized by the KZN Department of Sport and Recreation as part of efforts to mobilise communities to adopt active lifestyles.

“We are excited that President Ramaphosa will take time off his busy schedule to join our health walk in Pietermartzburg. We know that he has been championing the early morning walks among different communities throughout the country. We want to invite communities in Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas to join us for the walk and be part of the active and healthy lifestyles movement,” said MEC Sithole-Moloi.
