The Province’s senior citizens braved the scorching Richards Bay weather on Wednesday, 12/09/18, to display their sporting talents during KZN Indigenous Games held at Umhlathuze Sports Complex.
The Games involved teams from different districts and were used to select a team to represent KwaZulu-Natal in the upcoming national contest in October in the Free State.
The annual Provincial Games were a culmination of activities that start at ward and local level in all the corners of the Province. The games played are mostly of a fun nature, including duck-walk, ball throw, ring the stick, pegging, passing the ball and dress-up. But there are also competitive ones such as track and field athletics and football for males.
Activities started off on Tuesday, 11/09/18, with a march by participants to highlight the plight of senior citizens. They were carrying placards with messages including a call for an end to the abuse of the elderly.
The two day event is a programme of the KZN Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) in partnership with the Office of the Premier, Provincial Department of Social Development. Other stakeholders include the Department of Health and District Municipalities
