MEC Sithole-Moloi launch DAC and DSR Festive Season programme

MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Bongi Sithole-Moloi says arts, culture, sport and recreation have a huge role to play in promoting a safe, peaceful and responsible enjoyment during the festive season.

She was speaking during the launch of the Festive Season Programme for the Departments of Arts and Culture as well as Sport and Recreation at Umhlali Country Club on Thursday, 06/12/18. The two departments have organised several programmes that involve the youth, including beach games, Salga KZN-DSR Games, izingoma and music festivals.

Some of the programmes highlighted by the MEC that are supported by the two departments include:

  1. The National Youth Camp (underway in Louwsberg)
  2. SALGA KZN-DSR Games taking place in uMgungundlovu with over 4000 young people participating.
  3. Beach Festivals - Umzumbe (16/12), Uthongathi (17/12), Umgababa (23/12), Blythdale (26-27/12), Margate (29/12)
  4. Izingoma festivals taking place in different parts of the province.
  5. Umkhosi weselwa (19-23/12)

DAC also supports several music festivals taking place around the Province.

MEC Sithole-Moloi also handed over golf equipment to the KZN Golf Union for their development programme, which is funded by the Department of Sport and Recreation, involving children from disadvantaged communities.

“Arts, culture, sport and recreation are an important ingredient in the promotion of unity and social cohesion for our communities. We believe that through availing opportunities for youth to participate in these different activities, we will make a meaningful contribution towards making this festive season safer, peaceful and full of responsible fun for our citizens and visitor. I invite you to help us in spreading the message of responsible enjoyment and maintaining active and healthy lifestyles even during this festive period,” she said.
