The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport and Recreation in association with Nedbank hosted a women’s day function to empower the Department’s female employees - wrapping up Women’s Month with a bang at the Umzinyathi Canoe Club, in Shongweni, eThekwini on Friday 1st of September 2017.

The event, which was attended by the Department’s female employees from all districts, included presentations on personal finance by Nedbank.

Head of Department, Rohini Naidoo motivated women to look after themselves in all aspects of life and encouraged them to take accountability for their actions.

Naidoo thanked all who attended the event and mentioned that the Department has always strived to produce winners.

“We as KZN DSR have created a list of winners over the years and we shall continue producing more winners. Bonginkosi Mthembu the 2017 Comrades Marathon winner is a prime example of our work as KZN DSR. It shows that we indeed are a winning Department,” she said.

Nedbank representatives made numerous presentations on personal finance, including planning for retirement, wills and how to start up small businesses. Fundiswa Zuma, a Nedbank official shared a presentation on how retirement works, and how one can start saving up for retirement with Nedbank.

“We as humans must start looking at life differently. You must look at life beyond your nine to five job. There is much more to life than meeting deadlines and working overtime because of pressure from your boss,” she said.

Department official Samke Shezi, was honoured for her achievements after she recently won Gold as the Province’s Best Public Servant of the Year for 2016/17 in the Premier’s Service Excellence Awards.

“The reason why I was selected to win this prestigious award is because I always try my best to go the extra mile in helping and uplifting my community. I’m not doing this because of the salary but for the love I have for my community.” she said.
