Dundee July Horse Racing 2018
Background
Ever since the Dundee July was first initiated by the KZN Department of Sport & Recreation in partnership with the northern KZN independent horse owners in 2005, the event has gained tremendous growth and is now the most famous rural horseracing event around KwaZulu-Natal and across South Africa in this type of horse racing discipline. This is supported by the fact that the Dundee July provides a national benchmark in tripling horse racing disciplines.
A study conducted in 2012 showed that the event had injected over R15 million directly into the local economy and created over 300 temporary employment. It is believed that these figures have multiplied over the subsequent years. The growth pattern is expected to continue over the coming years with greater focus on infrastructure development and quality of services in all areas.
The event attendance figures reached over 20 000 people in 2017 and this year it is expected that the attendance figures will exceed last year’s numbers.
Organisers of the event always strive to make incremental improvements to the offering, experience and quality of horse contests as well as related activities, including fashion, music and hospitality.
The 2018 Dundee July will take place over three days starting with two days of build up. The festivities start on first day, Thursday 19th of July, which will comprise of an exhibition of different products offered by partners, including fashion, crafts, food, horse racing products and souvenirs.
