MEC Express Condolences On Passing Of Thulani Magudulela
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Hlengiwe Mavimbela has expressed her heartfelt condolences following the sad passing on of boxing promoter, Thulani Magudulela. Magudulela was the founder of Ludonga Boxing Promotions and the chairperson of the KwaZulu-Natal Professional Boxing Promoters association.
“We have learnt with great shock and a sense of sadness about the untimely passing on Mr. Thulani Magudulela, one of our leading boxing promoters in the Province and South Africa,” said MEC Mavimbela.
“Magudulela played a leading role in efforts to revive the sport of boxing in the Province, especially following the KZN Boxing Indaba that was held in 2013. In his illustrious career as a promoter, he staged a number of international and local boxing tournaments and has promoted a number of world-renowned boxers from the Province including world champions Moruti Mthalane and Ayanda Mthembu as well as Thabiso Mchunu, Siboniso Gonya and Christopher Buthelezi, to name a few. As Government we have worked with him and other local promoters who organized themselves under the boxing promoters’ association, chaired by Magudulela.
“We were looking forward to him staging more fights post Covid-19 devastation, including the cancelled tournament that was scheduled for Sunday, 14 February, at KwaNongoma Multi-purpose Hall in Zululand District.
On behalf of the Department of Sport and Recreation and the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and the entire boxing fraternity on this sad loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
