South African boxers have won against their continental opponents in two international bouts that formed part of the boxing tournament at KwaNongoma in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday, 24 November.

The five-bout event at the Nongoma Multi-Purpose Hall was staged by Ludonga Boxing Promotions with the financial support by the KZN Department of Sport and Recreation.
In the main bout local boy Ayanda Mthembu did not disappoint as he beat Tanzania’s Maisha Samson with a quick knock out in the first round to claim the vacant WBF Middleweight title. The fight had been scheduled for 10 rounds when is suddenly came to a halt within seconds of starting.

In another international feature over 6 rounds, Khumbulani Mdletshe won on a majority point decision against Limbani Masamba from Malawi in a welterweight division. In another welterweight encounter Onke Duke from Johannesburg won by TKO against Sibusiso Malinga from Jozini.

In the Junior Featherweight fight Sabelo Cebekhulu from nearby Mtubatuba won by majority decision on points against July Masuku form Mpumalanga (4 rounds).
In the flyweight division, Sabelo Maseko from eDumbe won by TKO against Mondli Mbeje from Durban.

It is not common for the small rural town to host such major events. The decision to take the fight here was inspired by the fact that both the promoter Magudulela and the new champion Ayanda Mthembu are from KwaNongoma.
