Working relationships between the Department of Sport and Recreation and the KZN Cricket Union to develop cricket have been strengthened with the Department lending support to the women’s cricket league with full playing kits.

The women’s cricket league is run throughout the Province as part of attempts to grow and develop women in sport, cricket in particular.

The handover of 15 kits formed part of activities during the Dolphins vs Titans one day Momentum Cup game at the PMB Cricket Oval on 28 January.

The Department was represented by Club Development Manager, Jay Mannikam, while the KZN Cricket Union was represent by its President Mr Faeez Jaffer and CEO Heinrich Strydom, and Dolphin Inland Amateur Manager Jason Sathiaseelan.

Speaking during the hand over, Mannikam said: “We as the Department of Sport and Recreation are proud supporters of cricket development, especially amongst the youth. Our MEC is a great supporter of women in sport, so this in fact is a great initiative for us as a department. We trust that you shall take good care of the kits and we hope it will benefit you and add value into your lives.”
