Congratulations to Maritzburg United for their exciting 3-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup at Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday (22/04/18). We wish the Team of Choice all the best in the final against Free State Stars in Cape Town on 19 May.

Meanwhile, MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Bongi Sithole-Moloi has condemned the violence that erupted at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening after Kaizer Chiefs lost their semi-final match 2-0 to Free State Stars.  Unruly Chiefs fans invaded the pitch after the final whistle, assaulted security guards, destroyed television cameras and set fires in some parts of the stadium.

We call upon the police to arrest the hooligans who engaged in acts of violence at the stadium. We also appeal to the supporters to refrain from putting the lives of fellow soccer lovers in danger. MEC Sithole-Moloi has called upon fans to channel their frustrations through correct structures within their clubs. No amount of frustration or anger justifies such actions. We wish those injured a speedy recovery.
