MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Bongi Sithole-Moloi says exercising, healthy eating and participation in active recreational activities should be part of our daily lives in order to improve the health status of communities in KZN. She was speaking during the Active and Healthy Lifestyles Campaign at eMadadeni in Newcastle, Amajuba District, in northern KwaZulu-Natal where she led fitness and wellness awareness activities on Saturday, 01/04/17.

She led hundreds of local residents on a 3km walk, which was followed by an aerobics marathon led by radio personality and fitness instructor Jacinta Ngobese and local fitness instructors.

The Amajuba event is part of a series of activations led by MEC Sithole-Moloi around the Province to encourage citizens to adopt active lifestyles as part of efforts to fight obesity and lifestyle diseases.

In her message, MEC Sithole-Moloi, urged communities to look after themselves by participating in arts and sports activities. She said communities must participate in Active Fridays which was launched early this year to galvanise communities to adopt active lifestyles. She added that arts and culture were also important in reminding people about their heritage as well as helping many to make a living out of crafts and other artwork. She is engaging with shopping malls in the Province to avail space for crafters to exhibit and sell their products.
