KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Bongi Sithole-Moloi has praised the KZN Indigenous Games team for winning the national championships for seven consecutive years since 2011.

MEC Sithole-Moloi hosted a gala dinner to honour Team KZN in Newcastle in northern KZN on Thursday, 09 November, for what she described as a remarkable achievement. The National IGs championships were held in Limpopo Province in September.

The event was attended by members of the triumphant 2017 team as well as Amajuba District Municipality Mayor Dr Musa Ngubane and the KZN Indigenous Games Federation president Sbusiso Dlamini.

The MEC expressed her amazement at the team’s achievements by winning the games so many times. She said the achievement is a truly reflection of the team’s level of commitment and discipline towards the indigenous games.

“I would like to thank you Team KZN for representing our Province. Thank you for flying our flag so high by winning the championship seven times in a row. It means a lot to us and we really appreciate your commitment and hard work,” she commented.

Mayor Ngubane also congratulated team players on excellent performances in their respective codes. He concluded by emphasizing that the win was a result of working together as a team which helped them to succeed in what he referred to as an “event of a lifetime”.
