LamontvilleGoden Arrows have been crowned 2019 champions of the KZN Premier’s Cup after beating Real Kings 2-1 in the final at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi on Sunday, 28 July 2019.
This was the second time that AbafanaBesthende lifted the trophy after winning the inaugural tournament in 2011.
The KZN Premier’s Cup is organised by the KZN Department of Sport and Recreation, in collaboration with the South African Football Association and the KZN Sport Confederation. It aims to give KZN teams an opportunity to finalise their preparation for the upcoming season so that they can compete against other teams in the Premiership and National First Division (NFD).

The tournament, which featured seven teams from the Province, was played over two days, with the elimination round taking place at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu on Saturday. Amazulu, Richards Bay FC and last year’s champions Royal Eagles were eliminated in the first round. The first game on Sunday, pitted Arrows and Uthongathi, with AbafanaBesthende emerging 3-0 winners. In the second semi-final, Kings eliminated Maritzburg United 2-1, to set up a final with Arrows.
AbafanaBesithende went on to beat Kings 2-0 to lift the Trophy.
The game was watched by thousands of enthusiastic football fans who packed the venue.
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Mr Sihle Zikalala and Sport and Recreation MEC, Hlengiwe Mavimbela applauded the fans for coming out in numbers to support their teams.
Premier Zikalala described the tournament as important to the development of football, adding that it was growing in popularity.
"As the government of KwaZulu-Natal we are pleased and very proud to be associated with this tournament and government has invested over R4million to directly assist the teams to prepare adequately for the new season. Next year we want to see this tournament grow even further," he said.
