Ø  Implement a department-wide supply chain management system for demand management, acquisitions management, logistics and assets management (including loss control and the disposal of goods no longer required).

Ø  Identify and implement a system for assessment of supply chain performance and come up with improvement strategies for addressing the gaps.

Ø  Put systems in place to prevent and detect unauthorized, irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure.

Ø  Maximize value for money through implementation of cost cutting measures.

Ø  Put systems for ensuring effective record keeping and reporting on SCM activities.

Ø  Put systems in place for ensuring that all supply chain management transactions of an institution are supported by authentic and verifiable source documents.

Ø  Ensure that proper control systems are put in place for assets management and that preventative mechanisms are in place to eliminate theft, losses, wastage and misuse of assets.

Ø  Ensure compliance with the highest ethical standards in order to create an environment where business can be conducted with integrity and in a fair and reasonable manner.

Ø  Facilitate the procurement of goods and services, either by way of quotations or through a bidding process within the threshold values as determined by the National Treasury, Provincial Treasury and the department.
