The development of Netball in KwaZulu-Natal will be under the spotlight when stakeholders meet in Durban this weekend for the KZN Netball Indaba.
The Indaba, which will be held at Garden Court Marine Parade Hotel (Durban) on Friday (04/12) and Saturday (05/12), will also incorporate the reconstitution of Netball KZN after the body was dissolved and placed under administration last year. A new executive committee will be elected.
The Indaba is organised under the auspices of Netball South Africa in conjunction with the KZN Department of Sport and Recreation. It follows efforts by stakeholders to reorganise netball structures in the Province and the majority of districts have already elected their executives.Netball is one of the priority sports for the Province and country, and it is vital to ensure that it has well organised structures to drive development and mass participation.
KwaZulu-Natal is already doing well in netball with Kingdom Stars winning Division 2 of the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League in 2015 and three players from the team selected for the National Senior Netball team, the Proteas. They are Bongiwe Msomi (Proteas Vice-Captain, Umgungundlovu), Precious Mthembu (eThekwini) and Nokubonga Sibiya (UThungulu). The Province has also hosted the National Netball Championships and the Diamond Challenge in Ugu District. There are plans to bring more national and international netball events to the Province.
