The 2015 version of the SALGA KZN-DSR Games hosted by Ilembe District Municipality will go down as one of most successful municipal games.
The annual tournament was held between 10-13 December at various venues around the District, but mainly in KwaDukuza with a few events in Mandeni, Balitto and Ndwedwe.
The Games, which feature different sport codes, are organised by the KZN Department of Sport and Recreation in partnership with the South African Local Government Association (SALGA)-KZN.
The competition is developmental in nature, and is credited with unearthing a number of talented young players who have progressed to be successful professional athletes.
The games commenced with an official opening ceremony on 10th December which was attended by high profile guests including mayors from all over the province, councillors, sponsors and the media.
Intensive preparations and upgrades of most of the playing venues paid off, with all the completion rolling our without any hassles.
EThekwini Metro continued its dominance in the Games and took top spot as overall winners. The Metro won eight of the 17 gold medals, four silver and four bronze medals and amassed 36 points, exactly the same points as last year.
Umgungundlovu was also again placed second with two gold, five silver and two bronze. Amajuba was third.
In the fourth place was Uthukela, with Uthungulu taking 5th position, Ilembe 6th, Ugu 7th, Umzinyathi 8th, Zululand 9th, Umkhanyakude 10th and Harry Gwala in 11th and last position.
