The Premier’s Sports Awards is an annual event that showcases the rich talent that exists in the Province. Whilst the Awards acknowledge the athletes who achieve at the highest level, it also rewards members of the community and municipalities who have made a significant contribution to the development and enrichment of the sporting lives of people at a grass roots level.

In acknowledging the achievements of the athletes, officials and the community, the Awards serve to:

• Motivate the athletes by bestowing the honour and prestige of the first citizen, the Honourable Premier, on them.
• Recognize the voluntary efforts of administrators, coaches, technical officials and community leaders.
• Encourage stakeholders in sport such as Federations to recognize their achievements and accelerate service delivery.
• Encourage development amongst disadvantaged communities, especially rural areas.

The Premier’s Sports Awards will take place on Friday, 2 December 2009 at the International Convention Centre, Durban.

You are urged to ensure your athletes/officials are entered. All applications must be accompanied by an action and a passport photograph (in colour).

Nominations close on 16 October 2009.
